WHO WE ARE
Earthen Vessel Magazine is published for the purpose of glorifying our God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. To that end we hope to encourage the preaching of the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ and the growing up of believers into the fullness of the stature of Christ. Each column, each feature, is designed to accomplish these two great goals.
We especially target pastors of small churches--the most influential group on the planet—and their congregations. Kent Philpott, now at the end of his third decade as a pastor, wrote For pastors of small churches in 2000. Earthen Vessel Magazine is essentially as an extension of the ministry that was begun with the publication of the “pastor’s book.”
There is no subscription cost. The electronic magazine is not a non-profit corporation but a partnership of those who produce it. We will accept donations for which acknowledgements will be issued yearly, but the donations will not be tax deductible. We encourage email addresses be sent to us that they may be added to the list that automatically receives each edition. In time we would like to send out hard copies of the magazine as widely as possible, but we cannot do this for individuals but will send multiple copies to churches.
Earthen Vessel Magazine reflects a moderate Reformed or Calvinistic tradition-- reforming as God gives us grace. We identify with all those who name Jesus as Savior and Lord regardless of whether or not they are in the same tradition we are. We might be described as “Spurgeon” type Calvinists, believing in the electing grace of God and the necessity of repenting of sin and trusting in Jesus—both at once because we believe this is what the Scripture teaches.
We adhere to The Apostles’ Creed. The only variation is we use “Christian” in place of “Catholic.”
Mission Statement
Our mission is to encourage and support pastors and their congregations in the work God has called the Church to do. We hope to encourage a growing into the fullness of Christ, the preaching of the Gospel, a building up of the Body of Christ, and the glorifying and honoring of the Triune God.
